OEM drawings — especially legacy and defense-derived ones — are full of callouts that stall a purchasing search: an MS number superseded twice since the drawing was inked, an AN number the distributor's system rejects, a mil-spec reference with no part number at all. The fix is the part number lookup: it resolves MS, NAS, AN, AS, and M-prefix numbers, including superseded ones, to the underlying National Stock Number — and the NSN is the identifier that survives every supersession, because old and new part numbers share it. A stocked item shows its published price right on the page; the same item costs the same whichever identifier found it.
Two habits worth building into your quoting process. First, resolve hardware callouts at estimate time, not at purchasing time — published pricing means the hardware section of your quote to the customer is real numbers, not plug figures.
